How is this different than regular massage

I like to think of this work as 8 parts bodywork, 2 parts massage.  A session may include hands-on manipulation, movement (active or passive), stretches, or movement education.  Bodywork is like massage on steroids, there's more to it.

Bodywork is defined as therapies such as massage, deep tissue manipulation, movement awareness, and energy balancing - a general collection of modalities, all of which improve the structure and functioning of the human body. They may or may not involve physical touch, but they all facilitate the body's own healing response. Bodywork in all its forms helps to reduce pain, soothe injured muscles, stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation and promote deep relaxation.

Massage is defined as a mechanical form of therapy using the hands, elbows and feet, in which the soft tissues are made more pliable, promoting increased blood flow and healing.

What should I wear to my bodywork or massage session?

There is usually no reason to disrobe for treatment.  Wearing loose comfortable clothing, like sweats or shorts and a t-shirt is optimal.  Jeans are difficult to work through.  There is a place to change your clothes if you need.

How often will I need to come in?

How often you receive treatments depends on what you want to do and what your body needs.  Some people, one visit is all it takes.  Others, may decide they are feeling good and would like to feel even better, so they continue.  There are a variety of options available, give me a call to discuss yours.

Is treatment painful?

Whether treatment is painful or not depends on many factors.  Your pain tolerance level, your presenting condition, the type of tissues we are working on, the technique we use, to name a few.  In most cases treatment need not hurt.

How long is a bodywork or massage session?

Massage or body mapping sessions can be either Full (50 minutes), 1/2 (30 minutes) or Short (10-15 minutes), depending on your specific needs.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, Check, Visa, Mastercard and Discover are acceptable forms of payment.  I will bill insurance for Auto and Work related injuries for you.  Some Health insurance programs will cover your massage and body mapping sessions, some will not.  I will, however, call your insurance company and find out for you.

Living without pain or restriction may more than compensate for out-of-pocket costs, should your company not cover this work.

Will insurance cover my bodywork or massage session?

Medical Massage can be provided if you’ve been recently injured in an auto accident or work related injury.  To find out if your insurance will pay for your treatment, feel free to call me at 503-939-2524.  I will handle the billing for you.
